Sheffield Park Academy student elected to UK Youth Parliament
Westminster beckons for budding politician Abigail Kirk, who has been elected to represent Sheffield on the UK Youth Parliament.
A year 9 student at Sheffield Park Academy, Abigail’s new position will see her working alongside local councillors and MPs to represent the interests of young people in her constituency, as well as attending Youth Voice Conventions to receive training and network with other Members of the Youth Parliament (MYPs).
During the voting, supported locally by Sheffield Futures Young Peoples Involvement Team, more than 70% of students at Park Academy took part, earning the Beaumont Road North based school a Silver Democracy Award which was presented to them by Sue Mia, Young People's Involvement Worker for Sheffield Futures.
Commented Sheffield Park Academy Headteacher Craig Dillon:
"This is a fantastic achievement and also a wonderful opportunity for Abigail to help make a real difference to the lives of young people living in the local community. We wish her all the very best in her new role and will be keeping a close watch on her political career!”
