Principal's Welcome

Sheffield Park Academy is part of United Learning, a national group of schools and academies which are united in their mission to bring out 'the best in everyone' and improve the life chances of the children and young people in their care.

We pride ourselves on a team of staff who are supportive, friendly and dedicated to providing the very best teaching and learning for our students. Staff across the academy set a culture of high expectations and continuous improvement for students which, in turn, is reflected in the emphasis we place on continuing professional development (CPD) for our staff.

Our sustained success is testament to the relationships between our staff, pupils and their families, each one of them playing their part in ensuring that every pupil achieves their potential.

Our Summer 2018 Progress 8 score was 0.54, which means that every single student, on average, achieved over half a grade more than what was expected of them. Nevertheless, we are committed to further development in both teaching and learning.

The academy is situated in purpose-built £30million premises, benefitting from excellent, state-of-the-art facilities and situated within ten minutes of major transport links in the city. As part of United Learning, staff and students are able to access professional development, shared experiences and national opportunities with colleagues and others from across the country. Likewise, as part of a cluster of United Learning academies in the area, there are significant opportunities for joint working, career development and leadership positions.

If you are looking for an exciting, challenging and rewarding career, we encourage you to visit us in person to see what you could achieve at Sheffield Park Academy.

Sheffield Park Academy is a high performing 11 – 18 school with almost 1,200 students, including 150 in our dedicated Sixth Form.

Part of the United Learning group of schools and academies, we have seen real academic improvement over the last five years. Our sustained success places us at the top of Sheffield’s league tables and we have received local and national recognition, including ministerial praise, for our performance in Progress 8.  This is the government’s new measure for recording pupil progress from the end of primary school to the end of secondary school, for which we have been recognised as one of the most improved schools in the country.

Following a recent inspection, Ofsted confirmed that the academy continues to be ‘Good’ and praised a range of its strengths:

  • “Strong, determined leadership has ensured that the school builds on the successes outlined in the previous inspection.”
  • “Behaviour in the school is good. There is a calm, purposeful atmosphere in both classrooms and around the school.”
  • “Pupils are proud of their school. They talked about the strong support they receive and the way teachers push them, not only to hit their target, but to go beyond it. They particularly appreciated the way teachers are prepared to give of their time freely, running after-school, holiday and Saturday morning classes.”
  • “Staff receive high-quality training and support.”
  • “Most-able pupils across all year groups… were unanimous in the view that the school now caters well for their needs as able pupils.”
  • “Pupils say they feel safe in all areas of the school and clearly appreciate the strong staff presence around the campus. They have confidence in school staff to help them resolve any issues which arise.”

As a thriving and ambitious academy, with a focus on continuous improvement, we are determined to deliver an ‘Outstanding’ education for every one of our students, providing the support they need to achieve their full potential.

PC – VI Form student

"I began my career as an NQT in the PE department 7 years ago and since then the Academy has provided me with endless CPD opportunities. For the last five years I have had the privilege of being a Head of Year. During this time I have also been the BTEC QN, an NQT mentor and have spent time as an Associate Senior Leader. The Academy has provided me with opportunities to improve both my teaching and professional development and strive to understand the needs of their staff."
LB - Head of Year

"I joined Sheffield Park Academy as I was looking for somewhere to develop professionally. I particularly enjoy the challenge provided by the pupils and the opportunities the school are giving me to develop my career. I am looking forward to my upcoming CPD, where I get to work with another head of MFL in preparation for teaching KS5 next year."
LS – Teacher of Languages

"I began my life at Sheffield Park Academy (its predecessor) in 2002 as a Learning Mentor. In the past thirteen years my journey has taken me from pastoral support, exams administration and now via a GTP into teaching; more recently as the academic lead for KS5. I think it is rare to find somewhere, an institution, that shares your own vision to dedicate itself to its young people in the way that we do. We will not allow social and economic deprivation to affect the aspirations or achievements of our students. We work together. The future is even more exciting and it is this that drives and inspires me."
MS – KS5 Academic Leader
