Homework
Purpose:
Homework at Sheffield Park Academy is designed to consolidate, improve, and extend learning from the classroom. Through regular practice and retrieval, homework helps students strengthen their recall of key knowledge, develop independence and confidence, and achieve to the best of their ability.
Support
Sheffield Park Academy is committed to ensuring all students can access and complete their homework.
Most homework is set online, and all platforms used can be accessed via mobile phones, meaning students do not need a laptop or desktop computer at home.
Students can also attend Homework Support Club every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday after school, where they have access to school computers and staff support. If students experience difficulties accessing homework or completing it independently, they are encouraged to speak to their classroom teacher or the Head of Department so appropriate support can be arranged.
KS3 (Year 7-9) Homework expectations
Students in Years 7–9 are set weekly homework in English, mathematics, and science, completed online using Sparx (or Seneca where applicable), in line with the school homework timetable and published deadlines.
Homework completion is monitored weekly. Where homework is not completed by the deadline, students are must attend a Homework Support session to complete the missed work. Failure to attend Homework Support will result in escalation to detentions in line with the school homework policy.
Homework completion is positively recognised through the school rewards system, with rewards linked to sustained effort and high levels of completion.
Additional homework may also be set in other subjects. Students are encouraged to complete this work and can earn reward stamps for successful completion. Non-completion of additional KS3 homework does not result in sanctions.
KS4 (Year 10-11) Homework Expectations
KS4 students are set weekly homework in all subjects (with the exception of core PE). Homework is designed to support GCSE and vocational course requirements and may include online tasks, revision activities, or examination-style questions and papers.
Students are expected to complete all homework set each week by the published deadlines. Homework completion is monitored regularly, with support provided where work is not completed, in line with the school homework policy.
As in KS3, homework completion is positively recognised through the school rewards system, recognising sustained effort and commitment.
