I hope that you find it useful and informative and that it gives you an insight into our unique and friendly school.
With almost 1,200 pupils aged between 11 and 18 housed in our purpose built, £30m facilities, the academy is a busy and vibrant place. The colourful display of the national flags of our students’ countries of origin in our main atrium illustrates the rich diversity of our student body, with over 50 countries represented and languages spoken.
As parents/carers will be aware, the academy has worked hard to ensure the safety of pupils by carrying out alterations to the top car park to ensure that pupils can be dropped off and collected there, instead of on Beaumont Road North. This should mean that no pupil has to cross the main road between parked cars, which is dangerous and to be avoided at all costs.
Unfortunately over the past few weeks a number of parents/carers have used Beaumont Road North to drop off or collect their children - I ask that you please use the top car park instead. Having worked so hard to ensure that the yellow lines and 20 mph speed limit were introduced, we must remain vigilant to ensure that the area around the academy remains as safe as possible during the very busy periods at the start and end of the day.
Please can I ask all parents/carers who are dropping children off in the main car park ensure that they remain in their vehicle until the dropping off area is reached. At the end of the academy day, all pupils being collected should remain at the collection area until their parent/carer's vehicle arrives; these measures are intended to ensure pupils' safety in the car park at these times.
I have requested additional signage to be installed, reminding pedestrians that they should not walk through the car park between 8.15-8.45am and 3.05-3.25pm / 4.05-4.25pm - the pedestrian gate on Dawlands Drive should be used instead. Additional staffing will be in place to support this and any pedestrians using the car park as a short cut will be asked to go back out and re-enter via the Dawlands Drive pedestrian entrance.
To create more space near to the drop off area and to enhance drivers’ visibility, I will be removing a number of staff parking spaces in the lower area of the top car park.
Thank you in advance for your support of these important safety measures.
