GCSE CELEBRATIONS UNDERWAY AT SHEFFIELD PARK ACADEMY

Students and staff at Sheffield Park Academy have been celebrating this morning as GCSE qualifications were awarded, mirroring what was a strong showing for Sixth Formers earlier this week as they received their university offers.

This year, GCSEs were also awarded following Teacher Assessed Grades (TAGs) due to the cancellation of external examinations. As part of this assessment process, students at Sheffield Park sat moderated examinations and completed a variety of coursework to demonstrate the progress they had made.

This morning, staff took the time to congratulate Year 11 students on their hard work – from Year 7 through to their GCSE studies. This has been particularly important given the challenges and disruption of the past 18 months caused by the pandemic, which saw schools move to home and blended learning.

Among the achievements of the day were a number of students celebrating particular successes, including:

  • Junnan Liu, who was awarded three of the top Grade 9s, three Grade 8s, one Grade 7 and two Grade 6s;
  • Misbah Naeem, who was awarded three Grade 9s, a Grade 8, two Grade 7s, two Grade 6s and a Distinction* –  the highest available in a BTEC;
  • Scarlett Hobbs, who was awarded two Grade 9s, Grade 8s across Science, four Grade 7s and a Distinction*;
  • Aaya-Husna Aslam, who was awarded two Grade 9s, two Grade 8s, Grade 7s across Science, two Grade 6s and a Distinction*;
  • Ibrahim Khan, who was awarded a Grade 9, four Grade 8s, one each of Grades 7, 6 and 5 and a Distinction*.

Many students will now be preparing to go to Sheffield South East Sixth Form – which combines the Sheffield Park and Springs Academies – to begin their A Level and equivalent courses.  The Sixth Form saw a strong set of university offers, including at some highly regarded Russell Group universities such as Imperial College London and the University of Manchester.

Commenting on the results, Roland Freeman, Principal at Sheffield Park Academy, said:

 “It has been wonderful today to see our students’ sense of satisfaction and relief as they received their GCSE qualifications. In what has been a particularly challenging 18 months, our students have had to show real leadership and determination, overcoming significant challenges during the pandemic in order to achieve their ambitions.”

“We look forward to welcoming many of them back to our joint Sixth Form with Sheffield Springs Academy – Sheffield South East Sixth Form – where they will enjoy a further two years before taking their steps into education and further education. I would like to congratulate those students celebrating today and thank staff for their hard work in encouraging and supporting our GCSE cohort.”
