Students will need to have obtained at least 5 Grade 5s or above, including English and Maths. Plus, subject specific criteria for each intended subject at A Level:

 

Biology - at least a grade 6 at GCSE.

 

About:

Biology is an interesting, highly relevant subject that gives routes to careers in many growing fields, and gives a good scientific understanding of contemporary issues, the living world and the environment.

Studying A-level OCR Biology (A) at Sheffield Park Academy, you will cover the following in Year 1:

  • Module 1 – Development of practical skills in Biology
  • Module 2 – Foundations in Biology
  • Module 3 – Exchange and transport
  • Module 4 – Biodiversity, evolution and disease

In Year 2 you will study:

  • Module 5 – Communication, homeostasis and energy
  • Module 6 – Genetics, evolution and ecosystems

Sheffield Park Academy is an excellent place to study Biology. You will be taught by highly experienced staff, and regularly undertake practicals. You will take a demanding, content-led A-level course that gives an excellent basis for university applications. You will have a minimum of 5 hours teaching per week, with regular out of classroom work set. You will be assessed formally each half term and given bespoke feedback to help develop your academic understanding.

Assessment:

Biology is a fully exam-assessed course. You will be tested on your understanding of biological processes, biological diversity and a synoptic unified assessment. Practical skills are a crucial element of studying Biology, and you will complete twelve assessed practicals throughout your course. These practicals will give a “practical endorsement” to your qualification.
