Knowledge Organisers

Each child in Y7-11 at Sheffield Park Academy is issued with a Knowledge Organiser each term. The Knowledge organiser is a vital piece of school equipment that your child should bring with them every day to school. Teachers have selected all of the key terms and vocabulary your child will be taught this term and they are all in the knowledge organiser. During lessons your child will be taught each of the words and then asked to practice them at home over and over until they become fluent. Fluency will help them achieve better in lessons and so the more determined your child is to learn this vocabulary the more successful they will be.

As a parent you can help in several ways

• Ensure they take pride in their Knowledge organiser and self quizzing book and bring it to school each day (having a school bag big enough for the folder is part of our expected school equipment too
• Talk to them daily about the words they are learning, look in their quizzing book and make sure they are practicing the words
• Do quizzes with them, selected a word and ask them to tell you the definition

The great thing about the knowledge organiser is that you don’t have to be an expert in the subject to help with their homework, all the answers are right there.
