Art
BTEC Art and Design is a vocational qualification designed to enhance a student’s knowledge and understanding of the artistic techniques and processes used within the ever-growing design industry. The BTEC Art and Design qualification caters for students that will benefit from guided learning through a wide range of art disciplines. The skills developed through an Art and Design course will prepare students for further education or any career path that requires presentation skills, an eye for aesthetics, a creative mindset and critical thinking.
A qualification in Art and Design presents the opportunity for a career as a freelance artist, illustrator, architect, art therapist, graphic designer, fashion designer, textile designer, gallery curator and many more.
Food Preparation and Nutrition
This is an exciting and creative course which encompasses practical cooking skills, a thorough u nutrition and health, food provenance and the working characteristics of ingredients. At its heart, this qualification focuses on nurturing students' practical ability to give them a string understanding of teh importance of a balanced diet as part of a healthy l. Students learn through an engaging combination of broad-based theory which is closely linked to regular practical experience to develop skills in the preparation of nutritious, healthy, and creative dishes.
Music
This qualification is for learners who want to acquire technical knowledge and technical skills through vocational contexts by exploring and developing their musical skills and techniques, and by responding to a music industry brief. The qualification recognises the value of learning skills, knowledge and vocational attributes.
This course focuses on developing musicians in all areas of performance and music technology. Projects will develop your understanding of the music industry as well as developing your skills with a musical instrument.
The components will allow the learner to focus on a variety of skills including instrumental skills, understanding music and music theory, writing music using technology, and live performances (solo and ensemble). You will learn how to use digital audio software and equipment for writing, recording and producing music as well as other projects. Throughout the course you will enhance your knowledge of recording studio techniques, radio production techniques, and listening
and analysing.
Performing Arts
The qualification is for learners who want to acquire technical knowledge and technical skills through vocational contexts by studying acting, dance or musical theatre. The qualification recognises the value of learning skills, knowledge and vocational attributes.
This course gives learners the opportunity to develop the key skills that prove your ability in Performing Arts such as reproducing repertoire or responding to stimuli. Explore a process that supports effective ways of working in the Performing Arts, such as development of ideas, rehearsal and performance. The appropriate attitudes that are considered most important in the Performing Arts, including personal management and communication. As well as knowledge that underpins effective use of skills, process and attitudes in the sector such as roles, responsibilities, performance disciplines and styles.
The components will allow the learner to focus on a variety of skills including the development of core knowledge and understanding of a range of performance styles and disciplines, and the key features that contribute to these such as practitioners’ roles, responsibilities, skills and techniques.
Textiles
BTEC Textiles is a vocational qualification designed to enhance a student’s knowledge and understanding of the artistic techniques and processes used within the ever-growing design industry. This course will encourage you to understand and apply the fundamental principles of design, and develop your ability to research ideas and concept and then develop your own ideas using a high level of creativity. You will be encouraged to experiment with a range of materials and equipment to produce a range of unique outcomes that showcase your creativity and artistic ability.
BTEC Textiles is a vocational qualification designed to enhance a student’s knowledge and understanding of the artistic techniques and processes used within the ever-growing design industry. The BTEC Textiles qualification caters for students that will benefit from guided learning through a wide range of textiles disciplines.
This course is perfect if you see yourself working as a designer in the world of fashion, textiles, soft furnishings, costume or even in fashion business.
Drama
Within this course you will learn acting and performance skills. Be able to create original story lines and characters. Develop knowledge of the Performing Arts Industry to build confidence and transferable skills such as: being able to evaluate, present ideas, work successfully as part of a team and problem solving.
You will learn:
- How to effectively use your voice and physicality to create a range of different characters.
- Different styles of theatre: Physical, naturalism, Brechtian.
- How to interpret and evaluate script, professional performance, and your own performances.
- How to pitch ideas successfully in practical presentations.
- How to create original work based on themes, pictures, and briefs.
- How to empathise, sympathise and understand motivations of characters and people.
- How to work successfully as part of a team and production company.
- About the performing and production arts industry : The theatre itself, job roles, funding, venues, stage configurations.
- How production arts elements are very important for the overall performance. You will learn about how they work and practically explore: set, lighting, costume, props, sound, stage management.
Design & Technology
This course offers a unique opportunity in the curriculum for learners to identify and solve real problems by designing and making products or systems. Through studying GCSE Design and Technology, learners will be prepared to participate confidently and successfully in an increasingly technological world; and be aware of, and learn from, wider influences on design and technology, including historical, social/cultural, environmental and economic factors.
You will complete two components, a written examination worth 50% and coursework of 50% including:
- Technical Principles
- Designing and making
- Wider issues in Design & Technology
- Complete a design and make task with prototypes
Engineering

Study engineering!
This course will broaden your skills and your mind as you learn about engineering from the design and planning perspective. It will provide you with a broad introduction to the engineering sector and the types of career opportunities available.
You will study three units:
- Engineering design
- Producing engineering products
- Solving engineering problems
These units will be taught in a practical way focusing on applying your skills and understanding through purposeful tasks set in sector. The industry focus will show you how your skills can be used in the future.
