Entry Requirements:

Students will need to have obtained at least 5 Grade 5s or above, including English and Maths. Plus, subject specific criteria for each intended subject at A Level:

 

Maths - at least a Grade 6 at GCSE.

About:

Over the 2 years of study you will study topics in both Pure and Applied Mathematics. Pure Mathematics is an extension of the number, algebra and geometry areas studied at GCSE in higher along with new topics differentiation and integration (calculus). In Applied Mathematics, Mechanics and Statistics will be studied over both years. Mechanics is the study of motion and forces acting objects in the real world. Statistics develops skills learnt at GCSE and introduces new techniques with probability.

Assessment:

A level Mathematics is assessed at the end of 2 years of study over three exam papers, all of which allow the use of a calculator.

  • Paper 1: Pure Mathematics 1 (2 hours)
  • Paper 2: Pure Mathematics 2 (2 hours)
  • Paper 3: Mechanics and Statistics (2 hours)
