Sheffield Academies show continued improvement at GCSE
25% of students at Sheffield Park Academy and 23% Sheffield Springs Academy have achieved five or more A* to C grades at GCSE including English and maths.
Commenting on the two Sheffield Academies, Kathy August, ULT’s Director of School Improvement, said: “Both our Sheffield Academies have continued to improve in all GCSE indicators. This demonstrates that despite our recent disappointing Ofsted inspections, measurable progress is being made. It is particularly pleasing that Sheffield Springs Academy’s five or more GCSEs at grade A*-C have more than doubled to 74% and that Sheffield Park Academy has continued to improve following last week’s strong A Level and BTEC showing.”
“Following the structural changes that were put into place last term both academies are in a strong position to start the new academic year. These results will act as an encouragement to staff and students alike to continue their hard work in accelerating improvement over the next 12 months.”
Kath Turner, Principal of Sheffield Park Academy said: “It is encouraging that our GCSE results have continued to improve. We have already begun work to ensure that next year’s results are even better and fully reflect the commitment and dedication of our staff and students.”
Charlotte Rendle-Short, Deputy Chief Executive of the United Learning Trust, which sponsors the academies, said: “Despite their disappointing Ofsted inspections, we have always known that there was real progress underway at both our Sheffield academies. The next 12 months at both academies will be about accelerating this improvement and we now have the right team and structure in place for this to happen.”
