SHEFFIELD PARK ACADEMY UNVEILS SPORTING ‘WALL OF FAME’
A sporting wall of fame has been unveiled at Sheffield Park Academy, dedicated to all of those that have attained, achieved and excelled in their chosen sport - past, present and future.
Current academy students featured on the wall include Year 7 student Megan Payling, a figure skater who was recently selected to perform at the Opening Ceremony of the European Championships, Year 9 student Joe Hobson, who recently won two gold medals at the Northern Indoor Championships - competing in the Under-15 age group against students older than him, Year 10 student Sheldon Ashton who was recently selected by the English Schools' Football Association (ESFA) to represent England Schoolgirls at the Under 15 age group and Sixth Form student Kofi Eschoe, who is a member of the Great Britain Gymnastics Squad.
Ex-student Jamal Smith, who left Sheffield Park Academy last year, is also included in the display thanks to his footballing prowess which has earned him a place at Sheffield United.
The wall was designed and painted by the academy's Art Department, along with help from local artists Urban Canvas, with the artwork inspired by the forthcoming 2012 London Olympic Games.
Welcoming the colourful new feature, Sheffield Park Academy Principal Maria Nightingale said:
"The wall is the perfect way of recognising and celebrating the sporting achievements of our students, past and present. Through the wall, we hope that by celebrating those who strive for excellence, this will serve to inspire our other students as they also strive to reach their goals and become Sheffield's finest."
