Business Studies
Welcome to the Park Academy Business Studies department, part of the specialism of Business and Enterprise. Business studies is taught as a core subject for Y7 through to Y10, at Sheffield Park Academy. We have increased to a staff of 10 specialist business teachers, many of whom have had experience in Business prior to teaching. Business is a relatively new department and is now entering its fourth year; we have enjoyed excellent results this time and look to build upon this success in the future. We recognise that we have students with many skills and interests, and as such we seek to help students develop their business skills to find enterprising solutions.
New Teachers
We have employed six new specialist teachers this year who are establishing themselves well in the school. All have different qualities and experience in different areas of business in previous employment. This has resulted in a dynamic and fresh approach to business that the students enjoy.
New Computers
There are many new computers in Business studies and we now enjoy fantastic surroundings in our new building.
New Courses
With the large expansion of business studies courses this year there will be a wider range of subjects on offer in the business studies area. Business studies will be taught as a core subject from 2008 to all year groups up to Y10. The KS3 curriculum has been developed to reflect the learning of business and this will be influenced by the skills needed for employment including the essential ICT skills. Business studies qualifications are a good basis for both employment and further education. We are developing courses this year that are accessible to all students including new courses in media and retail.
6th Form Provision
Presently we are offering a range of business qualifications in the sixth form, some one year courses and some two year courses. The one year course is BTEC first diploma (level 2) in business and the two year courses are BTEC National diploma (level 3) in Business. We are additionally offering A' levels in Applied Business and Government and politics new from September. We have Enterprise qualifications as an enrichment activity in the sixth form and encourage students to embrace the enterprise challenges that are set up nationally through charities, such as The big Challenge.
We offer a joint sixth form provision with Sheffield Springs Academy, giving students a choice of subjects that is second to none.
